First Bluetooth 4.0 devices to come out by the year's endApril 24th, 2010 - 04:42 pm by Wajiha H.
Bluetooth 3.0 is almost out of the scene now as the new and improved Bluetooth 4.0 is what everybody is waiting for now. It is fairly just like its older version, it builds on the 3.0 but it does add a new low power mode which the older version didn’t have before and so now it can be used by watches, training equipment etc. as well. Bluetooth 3.0 came out with a technology of around 802.11, so it made high-speed transfers possible.
![]() It also managed to achieve maximum speeds of around 24Mbps (vs. 3Mbps for 2.0 + EDR). When we look at the version 4.0, it is low-bandwidth, and the low power is enough to work on all cell-button powered devices as well. You can send Caller ID info to watches, data from pedometers, glucose monitors and so on without drying out the battery. But one thing you must remember and that is that Bluetooth 4.0 basically incorporates classic Bluetooth, high-speed Bluetooth and low-power Bluetooth. According to the Bluetooth SIG, ranges can go up to 60 meters in devices and the 10 meters limit does not always apply anymore. Bluetooth 3.0 was never a preferred option in mobile phones, ever; except for in some cases like support in the odd Samsung. Most of the new phones stick to 2.0 or 2.1 with Enhanced Data Rate (EDR). You can expect the first Bluetooth 4.0 devices to appear in late 2010 or early 2011. This might also mean that the Bluetooth 3.0 version might be skipped altogether!
