Microsoft reveals minimum hardware requirements for Windows Phone 7March 2nd, 2010 - 09:20 pm by Wajiha H.
Basically Microsoft has not been following any specific pattern for the design of Windows 7 devices but all of that is coming to an end now. They have now specified three variants of Windows Phone 7 devices which will lay down the form factor, CPU, graphics and a lot more related to that. Each variant, or “chassis”, will further state an already accepted form factor. For this article though we just have the specifics for Chassis 1.
![]() Chassis 1 sets down the basic requirements for all the “big touchscreen” phones out there. Now no minimum screen size or resolution has been specified as yet but there have been rumors suggesting 3.6” WVGA. The minimum requirements for the CPU are 1GHz and hardware graphics acceleration is something you can’t just opt out of. Not much is known about the other two variants, Chassis 2 and Chassis 3. Chassis 2 will be for devices with slide-out QWERTY keyboards in addition to the touchscreen; they are rumored to be Treo-like (strange, because the Treos are bars with portrait QWERTYs, there’s no sliding). Chassis 3 devices that have the bar form factor. That would make them Treo-like, rather than the Chassis 2 phones, that is more like the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2. According to the rumours, the first Windows Phone 7 Chassis 1 devices should be launched anytime around the holiday season this year. Nothing is known about the Chassis 2 and 3 devices though.
