REVIEW: Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2

February 11th, 2010 - 09:23 pm by Wajiha H.
XPERIA lineup was introduced back in February 2008, and now in February 2010, the successor of X1 is introduced, finally! From the looks of it, it surely seems that we have almost identical devices on our hand but we can hope for a major upgrade. We must mention that the XPERIA X2 is only the second PocketPC in the series after the X1. The others like i.e. the X10 Robyn, run on Android whereas the third one Pureness, is not a smartphone.
XPERIA X2
Main features include a Quad-band GSM support, Four-row slide-and-tilt QWERTY keyboard, Landscape and portrait virtual QWERTY keyboards, Handwriting recognition, 3.2" 65K-color TFT LCD resistive touchscreen (480 x 800 pixels), Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional, XPERIA panels user interface, Accelerometer sensor, 8.1 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash, Support for DivX/XviD files out of the box, Wi-Fi, DLNA, Built-in GPS receiver with A-GPS support, Bluetooth and USB (standard microUSB connector) v2.0, 3.5mm standard audio jack, stereo speakers, Flash video support, TV out port, TV out cable supplied in the retail box.

But there are some disadvantages as well like outdated hardware, sluggish interface, display still on the small side, inadequate touch sensitivity and sunlight legibility, almost no screen auto-rotation throughout the UI, disappointing video recording, basic music player, no FM radio, no video calling, but the last two features are expected to be a part of the update.

Not a lot should be expected of this phone except for some significant upgrades. There are a lot of connectivity options though, slide-and-tilt QWERTY keyboard, autofocus camera and a 3.5mm audio jack on board. The X2's screen measures 3.2 inches, but keeps the same 800 x 480 resolution as that of XPERIA X1. One expected change was Windows Mobile 6.5 definitely.
