Motorola Q4 financial report is out: Things are getting betterFebruary 7th, 2010 - 08:01 pm by W.Naqvi
The fourth quarter and the complete year’s financial report suggest that Motorola’s gloomy days might be over. Everything in the report points out towards a better day that the company might be heading towards. They closed at 142 million US dollars in Q4, which means that the total loss suffered by the company is only 51 million dollars, as compared to the 3.7 billion dollars that Motorola lost in Q4 2008 and 4.2 billion loss for the whole 2008.
![]() The hardest hit has been the mobile division, which has still failed to make any proper profit. If it’s any consolation the company shipped at least 12 million handsets in Q4, 2 million of which were smartphones and earned an income of around 1.8 billion US dollars. Now this in turn did wonders for reducing the overall operating loss to 132 million dollars but only this won’t help anymore, they will definitely have to start thinking about earning some real money now. If they come out with a couple of more handsets like the MILESTONE, chances are that money will start coming soon enough. Sales of the mobile division in the year 2009 haven’t been very impressive as they were around just 7.1 billion US dollars, compared to the 12.1 billion in 2008. Net loss of 1.1 billion US dollars was suffered by the company, as compared to a net loss of 2.2 billion in 2008. The estimated market share of the company is also not very noteworthy that is barely 3.7 percent.
