iPhone rules the 2009 world handset salesFebruary 26th, 2010 - 11:49 pm by Wajiha H.
Gartner has recently come up with their annual report on mobile phone sales, 2009 edition. And what they have found is nothing but interesting, down to the very core. All in all, 2009 has seen the phones sales being relatively flat despite all the economic imbalances that were there at that time. Motorola and Sony Ericsson were the biggest winners this year this year, while Apple, Samsung, LG and RIM had a good year.
![]() Nokia dropped two percent of total market share and 5.5 percent of smartphone market but all in all their total market leadership remains awesome. At least 440 million handsets were shipped by them, an amount which equals the totals of all other companies from the Top Five (470 million). Symbian accounts to 47 percent of all smartphones sales globally. Now the thing with Apple is that they have doubled their market share, shipping 25 million iPhones, compared to 11 million lats year. One healthy increase noted by RIM is 48 percent definitely pushing the total units sold to 34 million. Android, as far as the smartphone OS are concerned, has the biggest market share growth shipping on nearly 6.8 million devices in 2009. Now this is almost more than 10 times better than the 0.6 million in 2008. They can easily come on to the second spot if they keep doing it like this.
