Now the current economic recession, despite being disturbing for many has been a blessing in disguise for Samsung as it meant increased sales and market share. They have only recently announced that they have achieved a total of 50 million touch phones sales, and all were mostly sold this year. Almost 20% of the total sales have been grabbed by the Samsung S5230 Star, which was out only in May. This has been one of the fastest selling sets of Samsung.
 Samsung F480 aka Tocco comes in second with around 9 million units sold. This is one set of which Samsung released many versions like the Rockstar and La Fleur editions, and even a Hugo Boss edition. There is an updated version available as well called the F480i, equipped with the ultimate Samsung TouchWiz interface. Then there is the Samsung S3650 Corby which has also proved to be pretty successful with around 3 million phones sold since its release this year. Now this shows that out of a total sales of 50 million touch phones, 40 million were sold this year alone which is a humungous increase if compared with the 10 million sets which were sold last year. The percentage that touch phones make up of all Samsung phones sold has also increased four times i.e. from 5% to 20%. The goal set by Samsung to sell at least 200 million phones before 2009 goes out is all set to be met and even surpassed by the Company, seeing the current trends. Samsung are also about to release a brand new OS, Bada OS, which promises a "next generation UI". Not a lot is available about this OS, but it will be released somewhere around September next year.
