As we have discussed previously as well, Google is now focused on finding out exactly what versions of Android are the ones hitting the market more frequently, so that developers can focus upon creating applications for them. Google is doing this by detailing the fragmentation of the various Android versions and the frequency with which they are being distributed all over. This was recently mentioned in a company blog post. Now Google has started this thing by charting Android Market visit statistics for the first two weeks of December.

This particular survey has really been very helpful in knowing more about which Android versions are being churned out by the companies with more frequency. Now according to that chart 54 percent of the market visits are made by Android 1.6 devices, including the newly-updated T-Mobile G1 and myTouch 3G handsets, among many others. Twenty-seven percent of the Android market visits are from Android 1.5 handsets, like Motorola's CLIQ. It has also been found out that Android version 2.0 and 2.0.1, make up 17.7 percent of the distribution.

Now this does not show more than an idea about the platforms which are “accessing the Market most” and it should definitely not be mixed up with the “most popular” Android devices survey. Well it can be said now that newer users, with newer devices like Motorola DROID, would be needing newer apps more frequently than the older users with older devices.
