Sprint facing constant lossNovember 6th, 2009 - 12:16 am by Wajiha H.
Sprint has really improved upon the quality of phones and increased their portfolio as well to a large extent but their third quarter report is suggesting things otherwise as they are still showing loss. A report says that their rivals AT&T and Verizon, are attracting most of their customers. Some reports suggest that the Overland Park, Kan.-based company has already lost almost $478 million in the quarter, compared to a $326 million loss in the same period of 2008.
![]() According to the company’s latest reports it also lost around 545,000 subscribers, including 801,000 postpaid customers who sign annual contracts. Unfortunate but definitely better than the 1.3 million loss in the third quarter last year. Now if we turn to the reports of their rivals AT&T and Verizon Wireless, we see an increase of 2 million and 1.2 million total subscribers during the quarter, respectively. Sprint, the third-largest U.S. carrier, has been trying real hard lately to make an improvement after having gone in loss for like two years or do. "We had some successes in the third quarter but we still have much progress to make," said Dan Hesse, Sprint's CEO. Sprint has also started acustomer loyalty program, beefed up some of its phones like the Palm's Pre, so that it can compete against phones like Apple’s iPhone etc. “Certainly the introduction of the Palm Pre helped matters,” said Christopher King, who follows Sprint for Stifel Nicolaus & Co. Inc. in Baltimore. “But the gross subscriber additions do come at a fairly significant cost.” These losses do not only suggest that the costs are putting pressure on the expenses bit also reflect a decline in the total revenue of the company which down 9 percent from a year earlier, totaling somewhere around $8 billion. King said that equation contributed to an afternoon fall in share prices after the early morning conference call. Source Related ArticlesRelated articles to Sprint facing constant loss.
