The first TD-SCDMA set has recently been announced by Nokia in a press conference. This latest handset was being awaited by all and sundry due to the very fact that it is SCDMA. The abbreviation is for China's 3G standard, which works on top the regular GSM network but manages to get rid of all the licensing fees which you can’t escape at all if the technology that you are using is either UMTS or HSDPA.

The new Nokia 6788 is a slightly healthier mobile, measuring round about 105.6 x 54.9 x 18.9 mm. The features that it includes require that sort of physique due to which it comes as a boon. It has everything that can be thought of as a specification except for a Wi-Fi support, but that has a lot to do with the carrier instead of the handset manufacturer. The Nokia 6788 is being touted as a smartphone that runs Symbian OS v9.3, Series 60 rel. 3.2 and packs good 128MB of RAM.

There is also 256MB of ROM, 4GB inbuilt flash memory and a microSDHC card slot. Now it is not a device that totally runs on SCDMA, it also has GSM networks incorporated in it due to which it is highly possible that you will be able to use it outside China as well.

Bluetooth support is also there together with a built-in GPS receiver and a 1200 mAh Li-Ion battery. There is also a huge 2.8-inch 16M-color screen, standard 3.5mm audio jack, and a 5-megapixel autofocus sharpshooter with Carl Zeiss optics, dual LED flash and a protective lid on the mobile.

Sadly for the moment the new Nokia 6788 is going to be hitting the markets of China only and nowhere else but with time maybe. Now this will come in two colours only, black and brown and will be carrying special Chinese designs to show the exclusivity. Its estimated that the new Nokia is going to be available from December 2009. Nokia has also resolved to come up with new TD-SCDMA support very soon.
