Nokia and Apple feud over iPhone interface!October 26th, 2009 - 10:51 pm by Wajiha H.
This might be something that came up a few days ago, but nonetheless it is a matter of great importance. Nokia does not go on suing every other company for every other thing that goes wrong. But this time when the Finnish mobile phone maker has sued Apple to have used some new mobile technology without the Company’s permission, in their new iPhone. They have every right to; Nokia has done some serious investment, (around £37bn) in research and development over the last 20 years.
![]() According to the latest Nokia's press release, Apple has been found guilty of infringing on ten patents "fundamental to making devices which are compatible with one or more of the GSM, UMTS (3G WCDMA), and wireless LAN standards. The patents cover wireless data, speech coding, security and encryption and are infringed by all Apple iPhone models shipped since the iPhone was introduced in 2007." "The basic principle in the mobile industry is that those companies who contribute in technology development to establish standards create intellectual property, which others then need to compensate for," said Ilkka Rahnasto, vice president, Legal & Intellectual Property at Nokia. Nokia has been hit a great deal because of this infringement of patents, as they have lost at least 22 per cent in the market whereas Apple’s share was increased by 14 per cent In a recent note to investors, analyst Gene Munster at Piper Jaffray said, "We believe [Nokia] has been in talks with Apple concerning a patent royalty payment for over a year. It appears that the companies have not come to a resolution and Nokia is attempting to hasten the process. Nokia is likely looking to obtain a patent royalty of 1 per cent to - 2 per cent ($6 to $12) on every iPhone sold." There is a great convenience about Apple’s iPhone', it’s extremely user friendliness and an easy interface has played a great role in building up its image in the industry but on the other hand has put a bad effect on Nokia’s relatively outdated OS. To add fuel to the fire, Google has come up with Android which is very popular with the developer’s these days. Source Related ArticlesRelated articles to Nokia and Apple feud over iPhone interface!.
